Business and conference interpreting: consecutive, simultaneous and events
In short
Business work uses two main modes. Negotiations and factory visits use consecutive interpreting, which needs no special equipment. Large meetings and seminars use simultaneous interpreting, which needs booths, transmitters and headsets, with two interpreters per language combination as standard practice.
Information to send in advance
Agenda, slides, participant list with titles, product names and any in-house glossary. The earlier this arrives, the more accurate the technical terminology on the day.
Confidentiality
Commercial negotiations and due-diligence work usually require a confidentiality agreement. Define the scope of the information and the term of the obligation in writing before work begins.
Venue and schedule planning
Give the number of rooms, the number of listeners needing headsets and the break schedule, so the interpreter count and equipment can be calculated. Multi-language events need one channel per language.
