Driver Licence Translation Package

Short answer

This package covers a full translation of both sides of a Thai driver licence, issued with a certification statement transport authorities can verify. It also covers the driving history letter that several jurisdictions use when deciding whether a test can be waived. Conversion conditions remain the transport authority's decision.

Transport authorities look past the expiry date: they check the vehicle class, the first issue date and how long the licence has been held continuously. The translation has to show all of it.

What the package includes

  • Translation of both sides, including class and driving conditions
  • Translation of the driving history letter when supplied
  • Name spelling checked against the passport
  • Certification statement, signature and stamp from a certified translator

What you need to send us

  • Clear colour scan or photo of both sides of the licence
  • Driving history letter from the Department of Land Transport, if required
  • Passport bio page
  • The state or country where you will lodge

How the work runs

  1. 1Legibility checkConfirm the number, class and dates are all readable.
  2. 2TranslateTranslate both sides including the licence class descriptions shown on the card.
  3. 3CertifyIssue certification in a format the transport authority can verify.
  4. 4DeliverSend PDFs, with printed copies dispatched where originals must be lodged.

Indicative starting ranges

  • NAATI-certified translationTHB 1,500–2,500 per page

Varies with text volume, document type and language pair.

  • Thai–English translationTHB 500–1,200 per page

These are indicative starting ranges. The final figure depends on text volume, document type, language pair and the number of copies, and is confirmed once we have seen your files.

What the service fee does not cover

  • Transport authority fees at destination
  • Booking tests or completing the licence conversion for you
  • Obtaining the driving history letter on your behalf

Turnaround

Usually one of the shortest jobs we run, though still subject to workload and language pair.

Our advisory role

We ask which state you are lodging in, because some accept a certified translation alone while others want the history letter too. Knowing early means requesting everything from Thailand in one round.

Points to watch

  • An expired licence generally cannot support a conversion; renew first
  • Test waivers are at the transport authority's discretion; a translation guarantees nothing
  • Glare or blur makes fields unreadable and the scan has to be resent

Frequently asked questions

Does the reverse side need translating?

Yes, it usually carries the class and conditions the authority relies on.

Where do I get the driving history letter?

From the Department of Land Transport; send the file to us once issued.

Can an international permit be used instead?

Sometimes for short stays, but converting to a local licence generally requires a certified translation of the Thai licence.

Choose a package by document path, not by item count

Packages exist to show what a complete job contains, but we always look at your actual bundle and the receiving authority first. If the package you had in mind contains a step your bundle does not need, we remove it rather than charge for it.

What we check before starting

  • What format the receiving authority accepts, and which package matches it exactly
  • Whether any item is already issued in English by the source office
  • Work order: which step must finish before the next can start, so nothing is redone
  • How many certified copies you actually need

Where we tell you not to spend

  • If your bundle only needs certified translation, do not buy a package that bundles further legalisation
  • Documents lodged together can usually be processed as one bundle, lowering per-item handling
  • Steps you can complete yourself, such as requesting source records, we tell you to do yourself

What we do not promise

  • The receiving authority decides the outcome; we do not promise results
  • Government fees and processing times vary with the period and the workload of each office
  • We do not give legal, financial or medical advice beyond the scope of translation and certification

Reviewed August 2025. Confirm current requirements with the receiving authority before lodging.
